Between January and September 2018, 192K persons who have never flown before chose Aerolíneas Argentinas for their first flying experience. This number represents a 6 % increase if compared with the same period in 2017.

October 15, 2018.- During the first nine months of this year, 192K persons trusted Aerolíneas Argentinas with their first airplane flight ever.

A first-time flyer is someone who has never flown by airplane before, with all the related uncertainties and expectations. Aerolíneas Argentinas surveys around 20K passengers each month in order to determine which passengers are flying for the first time. The outcome is then extrapolated to the total amount of passengers. In line with the rise in first-time flyers, the Net Promoter Score (NPS) reached an average of 69 % in the first-time flyers segment, a very high number *.

The testimonials of some of Aerolíneas Argentinas’ first-time flyers clearly show the level of satisfaction achieved in the experience. “Whenever someone asks me how the experience was, I say that it was wonderful. Before flying, I had a lot of questions. They told me everything that I needed to take with me. The person who answers the phone, the one at the counter, the flight attendants, the pilot… it was an unforgettable experience.” said Walter, who flew for the first time to Iguazú Falls. “This is my first flight. I’ve never done it before because I had a terrible fear of flying. My husband talked me into doing it. It’s amazing, awesome. The plane is beautiful, and the environment is perfect.” said Lilian, another first-flyer.

Aerolíneas helps people overcome their fear of flying.

Aerolíneas Argentinas encourages an increasing amount of people to fly by airplane. For such ends, in 2015 it developed the program “Dare to fly”, designed for persons who suffer from this fear.

The program is delivered by human factor specialists, pilots, crew members, maintenance technicians, and ground  personnel of the company. Its purpose is to provide firsthand information to people who suffer from a fear of flying.

During this course, participants share their doubts, which tend to include the most common fears and are usually based on ignorance of the operations that make flying the safest means of transport.

This initiative is one of a kind because no other airline offers a comprehensive and free course for participants to learn about the different aspects of flight operation, the training received by the cabin crew, and other safety considerations.

Ever since its was implemented, approximately 3 years ago, more than 1,000 persons have participated in the “Dare to fly” program, and most of them have overcome their fears and flown.

According to the information published by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), one out of three passengers is afraid of flying. This is why previous knowledge is key to enjoying the experience.

At the end of the course, participants receive a pin that they must wear when they fly for the first time, which allows Aerolíneas Argentinas’ crew to identify them fast and offer support to them, if necessary.

* The NPS (Net Promoter Score) is built up based on three segments: those who respond with a score of 9 to 10 are called “Promoters”; those who respond with a score of 7 or 8 are called “Passives”; and those who respond with a score of 1 to 6 are called “Detractors”. Subtracting the percentage of “Detractors” from the percentage of “Promoters” yields the NPS percentage (Passives are left out of the equation).
