Aerolíneas Argentinas celebrates its 70th anniversary

10/12/2020

December 7, 2020 – On the occasion of the 70thanniversary of the creation of Aerolíneas Argentinas, a series of commemorative acts will take place today starting with the publication of an institutional video with the hashtag #Aerolineas70años.

Then, at 8 p.m., Canal Encuentro will broadcast “Aircraft of a Nation. The history of Aerolíneas Argentinas” (Aviones de una Nación. La historia de Aerolíneas Argentinas) for the first time, which is a 26-minute documentary focused on the raison d'être and the purpose of the Argentine flag carrier. Additionally, mapping techniques will be used to project dedicated images related to the anniversary onto the façade of the CCK building.

Also, Terminal C of Ezeiza International Airport has been specially decorated with the commemorative logo and the Argentine Post Office has announced the launch of a new philatelic collection on Aerolíneas Argentinas which may be purchased on its e-shop.

Throughout the year and via its social media, the Company will share commemorative material to propose a journey through its history posting a great amount of unpublished content related to its most iconic aircraft and main milestones.

It is worth highlighting that the Company has presented a special logo for its 70th anniversary as well as a retro-colored Boeing 737, something which made a big impact on the most sentimental passengers and which does not go unnoticed each time the aircraft lands in an Argentine airport.

Established 70 years ago through an executive order issued by President Juan Domingo Perón through the merger of ALFA, ZONDA, FAMA and Aeroposta Argentina (at the time known as the “aerolíneas argentinas”), the Company was privatized in 1990 and was taken to the verge of disappearance in 2001 and 2008, when it was reacquired by the Argentine Government.

Between 2009 and 2015, the Company went through a modernization process which allowed for the full revamping of its fleet, the inauguration of the CEFEPRA (Argentine Pilot Training Center) and the construction of the Hangar 5, among other achievements.

It should be mentioned that the merger with Austral Líneas Aéreas was announced last week. As a result, the company and all its staff will become part of Aerolíneas Argentinas.
