03/10/2020

October 3, 2020 – Yesterday, the Argentine flag carrier concluded an agreement with the Aerolíneas Argentinas and Austral pilots within the context of the merger of both companies, which will allow them to improve flight scheduling, standardize operating criteria, and make the organizational structure more efficient.

Upon the execution of this agreement, all pilots will work under the same rules and criteria, their hierarchy will be integrated and their trade union representation will be consolidated, all of which will boost fleet productivity.

“Yesterday, we took an essential step towards the realization of the merger of Aerolíneas Argentinas and Austral. We reached an agreement with the pilots of both companies, putting an end to a history of internal disagreements within our airline,” stated Pablo Ceriani, President of Aerolíneas Argentinas.

Mr. Ceriani added that “at the beginning of the pandemic, we basically set two goals: to put all of our work at the service of the country by operating repatriation flights and health supply cargo flights, and to make all the changes necessary in order to boost the productivity of our company and be able to overcome the worst crisis in the commercial aviation industry.”

Along with the merger, the company is developing a new business unit to provide independent aircraft maintenance services to other companies and members of the industry. The company will draw on the reputation earned in terms of safety and on its international certifications and infrastructure.

In the same vein, the company is creating a cargo business unit, drawing on the experience gained from its cargo flights to Shanghai. The development of a specific business unit responsible for the transport of cargo was one of the Company’s long-standing pending issues.
