April 15, 2020 – Argentine President, Alberto Fernández, held a meeting this afternoon with the President of Aerolineas Argentinas, Pablo Ceriani, at the Residence in Olivos. Mr. Ceriani informed him about the flight that departed to China with the purpose of bringing medical supplies and protection materials to the country to help prevent the coronavirus.

Both analyzed the outcome of operations of the 48 flights that allowed more than 16,000 Argentine people to return to the country. Accordingly, the following steps to be followed regarding the special flights were analyzed.

“We are proud to be able to underpin all what the government is doing for this global crisis to be the most benign possible for our country. Aerolíneas Argentinas is one of the clearest examples of an involved and concerned Government, as the one being administered by our President”, explained Pablo Ceriani, President of Aerolíneas Argentinas.

It must be mentioned that while the meeting was being developed, flight AR1070 of the Argentine flag carrier was taking off towards Shanghai. Flight will be twofold: a first stage of 15 hours to Auckland, and a second stage of 12 hours to reach final destination. When it comes back, on Saturday morning, it would have completed a route of about 55 flight hours.

The aircraft, an Airbus 330-200, was specially fitted to increase its cargo capacity and thus bring 13 tons of medical supplies including protective safety masks, surgical masks, globes, biosafety suits and protective safety goggles.
