October 11, 2018.- Last week Aerolíneas Argentinas carried a shipment of blueberries grown in Tucumán, which are part of the 16K metric tons exported by the country each year, out of an overall production of 21K metric tons. Every week 42 flights depart with 300 metric tons of this berry.

Argentina is the world’s eighth largest producer of blueberries, a nontraditional crop whose main consumers are located in the Northern hemisphere. Since the production of this berry is seasonal, our country provides counter-seasonal supply. The main provinces that grow blueberries are Tucumán, Salta, Corrientes, Entre Ríos and Buenos Aires.

This fruit has encouraged the development of regional economies and its production is a supplemental source of work for citrus fruit producers. The main buyers are the United States, Europe, and Canada. Aerolíneas Argentinas carries these berries to Miami and New York, as well as Madrid and Rome, from where it is distributed to Amsterdam, Frankfurt, and Munich, the cities that consume the most blueberries.

Through this kind of shipments, Aerolíneas Argentinas cooperates with the development of regional economies, and their penetration in international markets.
